Jackie Redpath MBE, Chair
Since the early seventies Jackie, has been involved at the cutting edge of community development work in the Shankill area of Belfast and in peace and reconciliation across Belfast, N Ireland and in cross border initiatives with the Republic of Ireland.
He is currently Chief Executive of the Greater Shankill Partnership, an organisation leading the regeneration of a disadvantaged area of Belfast. The Partnership brings together statutory, community and private sector bodies to address regeneration issues.
Jackie’s international experience has had a particular focus on the USA, where since 1991 he has been involved in missions to attract company inward investment and trade. His involvement has also embraced contributions to building the peace process in N Ireland and by building an understanding of the Protestant community and the importance of an even handed approach to US involvement in N Ireland.
In 1995 Jackie was given American Ireland Fund’s Leadership Award and has subsequently served on the Ireland Fund’s Advisory Panel and in 1997 he received an MBE in recognition of his contribution to the community. In the 1970’s Jackie worked for the Shankill Community Council and Shankill Education Workshop. Throughout the 1980’s he published and edited the Shankill People newspaper and was Director of the Greater Shankill Development Agency from 1989-1996.
Jackie has been founder member of a range of housing, economic, voluntary and reconciliation agencies including the NI Federation of Housing Associations and the NI Voluntary Trust (now Community Foundation for N Ireland), where he served as a trustee for five years
Liam Maskey
Liam Maskey founded the Newington/Cavehill Community Services Association (NCCSA) in 1989 and is both co-founder and Director of Intercomm since 1995, a cross community project operating in North Belfast. He was a founding Member of the North Belfast Partnership Board and he has served on the Belfast European Partnership Board since its formation in 1996. He has recently been awarded the prestigious U.S. President's Award for his efforts in promoting peace and reconciliation.
Drew Doherty
Currently Operations Manager, Drew has worked at Challenge for Youth since 2005. A Belfast based charity the organisation has been working with marginalised and vulnerable young people since 1990. Previously Drew was employed by Springboard, firstly as a Project Leader and then Programme Manager. He worked on a range of programmes and they involved overseas phases in Cape Town, Montreal, Liverpool and Toronto. He has been involved in youthwork since 1990.
Seamus Murray
Worked with the voluntary and community sector for 8 years in Belfast. Then for 4 years with HM Customs and Excise in London dealing with European policy matters. Returned to Belfast set up and managed an Open Learning Centre in Belfast. Then moved to the Department of Environment Making Belfast Work initiative and led a team working with inner city regeneration in Belfast before joining the Voluntary and Community Unit, Department for Social Development. Has been responsible in the VCU for volunteering policy, regional infrastructure, social economy, finance and governance and charity policy in N Ireland. Currently taking forward review of charities legislation and administration in N Ireland and the development of better governance in the voluntary and community sector. At present acting Director of VCU.
Joe Stewart
A long time community worker involved in the Shankill area, he has worked as Manager of Impact Training for over 30 years an organisation meeting the needs of unemployed young adults. Joe serves as Chariman of Tudor Neighbourhood Renewal Association, one of the largest social/ private developments in Belfast. He is also a Director of Spectrum Property Development Company, Greater Shankill Partnership and Shankill Womens Centre.
Denis Rowan
Currently Assistant Director General of Employment Services in FAS, the National Training and Employment Authority in Ireland. Is responsible for the National Employment Service and Job Units and has many years experience of working on North / South initiatives.
Brendan Mackin
Brendan Mackin is Director of Belfast Unemployed Resource Centre. He is Vice-President of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, Chairperson of the Social Economy Agency, Board member of the NI Housing Executive and Chairperson of Intercomm (North Belfast).
Sandra Kelly
Originally from Dublin, Sandra was a participant on the first cross-border Wider Horizons programme in 1992, where she spent 3 months acquiring business French while working and living in Compiegne, a university town in Northern France. On her return from France, Sandra joined Ryanair's Marketing Department for two years before heading off to work in North America and Cuba for 2 years. In 1996 Sandra moved to Brussels to work for the European Commission where she spent 2 and half years working in the Directorate Gernal for European Trade as PA to the Director of Anti-Dumping and Anti-Subsidy Investigations. In 1998 Sandra took a secondment to European Commission Offices in Belfast where she was PA to thw Head of the EC representation to Northern Ireland. Since 2000 Sandra has worked for the economic development agency, Invest NI (formerly LEDU) in Trade Development, assisting new and inexperienced exporters to access European markets.

Critical to the ongoing success of Springboard has been the contribution of the staff. They bring to the organisation a deep commitment to promoting an appreciation of diversity, contributing to a cohesive society and building capacity.
Angila Chada, Executive Director
Angila Chada, BA, Dip, MSc is currently Executive Director of Springboard. Since the organisation’s inception in 1992, she has been responsible for the innovative design of a range of community based interventions, each promoting an appreciation of intercultural diversity and building capacity. As Programme Manager from 1992-1996, Angila was directly responsible for the design, delivery and management of numerous programmes. Prior to joining Springboard, Angila worked as a Manager within a consultancy house in London operating chiefly in local and central government. In June 2009 she was appointed as a Charity Commissioner in the first ever Charities Commission for N Ireland. In addition she currently holds Board membership for Intercomm in North Belfast and sits on the Belfast City Council's Good Relations Partnership. Other activities within the voluntary and community sector have seen her participate in various strategic planning and evaluation processes.
Mikhailia Woods, Programme Manager
Mikhailia brings a range of experience and skills to Springboard. She previously worked with a range of organisations including St Mary’s Youth Club, the 1825 Project and most recently the Coda Project. She attained her degree in Community Youth Work in 2005 and also built her skills through a variety of accredited courses such as OCR Certificate for Part time Youth Workers and NOCN qualifications in Community Tutor Training, Conflict Management, Good Relations and Civic Leadership.
Josey Grogan, Programme Manager
Josey joined Springboard in 2004, following completion of his BA degree in History and Social Anthropology. He had previously worked as a youthworker with 174 Trust and as a support worker with Less Hestia and Starting Point. A certified practitioner in Neurolinguistic Programming, Josey has also achieved both a range of qualifications and experience in youthwork while with Springboard. Josey has recenly passed his postgraduate Diploma in Community Youth Work at the University of Ulster.
Jen Ashton, Senior Programme Manager
Originally from Sheffield, Jen moved to Belfast in 2000. She joined Springboard as a Project Leader in 2003 before successfully attaining the position of Programme Manager in 2006. Prior to joining the organisation, Jen gained significant experience from working with a number of organisations including CRIS, Corrymeela, Give and Take and Niacro. She has also gained qualifications in a range of disciplines, including youthwork, adventure learning and sports coaching.
Paula Quinn, Marketing & Recruitment Manager
Prior to joining the organisation in 2005, Paula had spent time studying in the University of North Carolina and gaining work experience in public relations with a company in Boston. She also brought to Springboard her skills gained from completing a BA in International Studies and MSc in Political Communication and Public Affairs and a significant level of local experience in marketing from both the community and private sectors. During her time with Springboard she has built extensive networks and has been responsible for all PR and event management. She continues to develop her skills and experience and is currently a member of Institute of Public Relations and Northern Ireland Government Affairs Group (NIGAG). She is a certified Neurolinguistic Practitioner as well as a Director on the Board of Lagan Valley Rural Transport and NIGAG. Paula is currently completing a NVQ Level 3 in Management as well as a Diploma in Image Consulting.
Stephanie O'Rourke, Project Leader
A former participant of Springboard’s Community Reconciliation Skills programme to South Africa, Stephanie joined the organisation as a peer mentor in January 2008. She has attained a range of youth work related qualifications and is currently participating in the BSc Community Youth Work Degree at the University of Ulster. She also volunteers with the Meath Youth Federation.
Stuart McKnight, Project Leader
An experienced youth worker, Stuart brings extensive skills and knowledge to his post in Springboard. Stuart previously worked for Ballysillan Youth Forum in a variety of challenging roles and in 2008 completed his Diploma in Community Youth Work with the University of Ulster. Prior to this, he successfully attained numerous youthwork and groupwork qualifications which he updates regularly. He has recently completed the Train the Trainers facilitation course and sits on the management committee for Streat Beat.
Ruth Montgomery, Project Leader
Michaela Rafferty , Project Leader
An experienced youth worker with a background in detached youth work, Michaela brings a wide range of skills and experience to her post in Springboard. Michaela previously worked with Woman’s Aid supporting woman and children experiencing domestic violence and also as an Outreach and Education Officer for Brook NI. In 2007 she completed her Degree in Community Youth Work with the University of Ulster and after gaining her Certificate in Counselling she would like to further her studies in this field in the future.
Tony Clarke, Project Leader
An experienced community worker, Tony joined Springboard in 2003. He had previously worked in a range of community projects such as Lagan Valley Educational Project, Lynx Project and Twinbrook Celebration Partnership before participating on Springboard’s Community Reconciliation programme to South Africa. On completion he worked with Springboard as a peer mentor before successfully attaining his current position. He has also recently completed a certificate to become a practitioner in Neurolinguistic Programming and successfully completed a facilitation course called Train the Trainer.
Carol Burns, Bookkeeper
Carol is one of our longest serving members of staff having joined the organisation in 1993. She ensures the smooth running of our finances and liaises with the respective banking and statutory agencies. She has extensive experience in working with finances and has managed to keep all of us on the right track for many years!
Laura Wright, Finance & Administration Officer
Laura joined Springboard in 2001 as Administrative Officer, following her completion of one of our programmes to Toronto. In her current position she has gained extensive experience of administrative and financial processes and systems and achieved qualifications in Health and Safety and Sage. She is also a certified practitioner in Neurolinguistic Programming and completed a Modern Apprenticeship NVQ Management Level 3.
Aine Croarkin, Administrative Assistant
Aine joined Springboard in 2004 after completing one of our Wider Horizons programmes. She has attained qualifications in youth work, peer education, first aid and business administration. In her role as Administrative Assistant she is responsible for the smooth running of the office, coordinating our homestay initiative and carrying out administrative duties for the organisation.
Geraldine Miligan, Administrative Assistant
Geraldine joined the organization in 2009. Previously she worked in a number of organisations in the private and public sectors. She has attained a range of qualifications in computers and in business administration.
Charmaine McBride, Administrative Assistant
A former participant of Springboard’s Performing Arts programme in 2008, Charmaine built her skills in a variety of administrative roles over since 2000. A graduate of Queen’s University, she has a BA in Sociology and Drama. She is currently developing her skills and knowledge by participating on the Certificate in Youth Studies and continuing to build her experience of drama facilitation.
